Participation in the workshop „Limits of The Development Paradigm – Sustainability and Postcoloniality as Challenges”

On July 6, 2023, Prof. Dr. Rachid Ouaissa, Dr. Hannes Warnecke-Berger, and Younes Qrirou from the collaborative research project Extractivism.de participated in the network meeting “Limits of the Development Paradigm: Sustainability and Postcoloniality as Challenges” at Justus Liebig University in Gießen. In the panel “Alternative Ideas for Development from the Perspectives of Sustainability and Postcoloniality” Prof. Dr. Ouaissa (Philipps-University of Marburg), together with Prof. Dr. Dietz (University of Kassel) Prof. Dr. Böschen (RWTH Aachen) discussed the limits of the concept of sustainability. The contributors stressed the importance of reflecting on power dynamics. They argued that the plurality of knowledge and variegated academic approaches should be included.

The network meeting was organized by the collaborative research project NISANSA (Social Consequences of Climate Change and Sustainability Innovation in Southern Africa and Northern South America) affiliated with Phillips-University of Marburg and Justus-Liebig-University of Giessen. Over two days, the meeting provided a platform for networking in the field of area studies in Germany.
