Our postdoctoral researcher, Luíza Cerioli, has contributed a chapter to the forthcoming volume International Relations in a Multipolar Middle East, edited by Francesco Belcastro and Edward Wastnidge, and published by Manchester University Press. The volume examines the evolving international relations of today’s Middle East, a region increasingly shaped by multipolar dynamics. As global politics transitions toward a new multipolar order, this collection offers critical insights into how these shifts impact the region.
Cerioli’s chapter, titled “Neoclassical Realism as a Path for Growing Collaboration across Middle East International Relations and Area Studies,“ explores how the theoretical framework of neoclassical realism, with its paradigmatic flexibility and incorporation of both structural and domestic variables, can foster stronger interdisciplinary engagement in the field of international studies. She argues that the approach’s ability to accommodate increasing analytical complexity makes it particularly well-suited to understanding the challenges posed by an emerging multipolar international system.
The book is currently available for pre-order here and is scheduled for publication in September 2025.
