“New Generations and Leaders to Power: from the student movement of 2011 to the first government of the Frente Amplio in 2022”

On March 29th, the dossier “Youth, politics and generations in Latin America, from the second half of the 20th century to the 21st century” was published in the Iberoamericana journal of the Freie Universität Berlin. In this dossier, several renowned social science researchers in the area of youth participate, among them Camila Ponce Lara, postdoctoral researcher of our project wrote the article entitled “New Generations and Leaders to Power: from the student movement of 2011 to the first government of the Frente Amplio in 2022”.

This text analyzes the generations that played an important role in the student movement in 2011 that today lead the government, not only from the presidency of Gabriel Boric but also from different roles as ministers and undersecretaries. This article seeks to understand this generation, their trajectories, and transformations over time, and thus understand how they will face the 4 years of government.
