Katrin Metzger, Ph.D. student in the collaborative research network Extractivism.de, participated in the 7th ADLAF Young Researchers conference. The conference took place online on March 30-31, 2023.
As part of the “Human-Environment Relations” panel, Katrin presented her dissertation project. Her presentation, “Intermediaries in extractivist societies in Chile and Bolivia,” focused specifically on social dynamics in societies characterized by resource extractivism. In doing so, she explained how actors mediating between state institutions, companies, and civil society form a stabilizing function within extractivist societies and serve an essential function in their persistence.
