Energy Sovereignty for Tunisia: A people-centered approach to transition

This Extractivism Policy Brief 03/2025 shows:

  •  Tunisia’s energy strategy is shaped by a global discourse prioritizing state-centric energy security, despite addressing national
    needs and climate action.
  •  Tunisia’s subordinate global position risks turning it into a “sacrifice zone” disadvantaging its citizens in the energy transition.
  •  Focusing on state-centric energy security may hinder a truly beneficial transition for Tunisians.
  •  Shifting to energy sovereignty can address power imbalances and promote equitable benefits globally and nationally.
