Extractivism and CALAS at the 33rd Havana International Book Fair 2025

In mid-February 2025, the 33rd Havana International Book Fair (FILH) opened its doors, transforming the Cuban capital and the entire country into a vibrant literary celebration dedicated to thought and culture. In this inspiring setting, the Center for Advanced Latin American Studies (CALAS), its CALAS Chair at the University of Havana, and the research consortium Extractivism presented a selection of their latest publications.

This year, CALAS and Extractivism showcased their publications at two key FILH 2025 venues: the University of Havana and the University of Oriente in Santiago de Cuba. Among the featured works were titles from the CALAS-CLACSO series, including Las crisis en el desarrollo económico de Cuba and ¿De la sustentabilidad al desarrollo? Entre el extractivismo verde y la transformación socioambiental. Additionally, they provided a preview of upcoming releases, including the Spanish edition of The Political Economy of Elites in Latin America, set to be published in 2025 as part of the Global Challenges in Political Economy series by Routledge within the Extractivism.de project, as well as Planificar el Archipiélago: hacia una ontología urbano-rural de sanación de todo el mundo, a work that emerged from the most recent edition of the CALAS Chair at the University of Havana.

Through their participation, CALAS and Extractivism reaffirm their commitment to fostering critical reflection and promoting an interdisciplinary and interregional dialogue on the pressing social, economic, and environmental challenges facing the region.
