Youssef Cherif investigates how Arab Gulf investments in extractive industries influence authoritarian governance in the Maghreb. His contribution to the project emphasizes the political economy of fossil fuel and renewable energy investments in North Africa. His work focuses on how extractivism strengthens neoliberal authoritarianism through finance, infrastructure, and elite alliances.
