Dr. Cecilia Gárgano is a National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) researcher and an Associate Professor of Humanities at the National University of San Martín (UNSAM) in Argentina. Moreover, she coordinates the the research program “Socio-environmental Conflicts, Knowledge and Politics in the Argentinean Extractivist Map” at the Human Sciences Research Laboratory (LICH-UNSAM-CONICET). As a specialist in the recent history of science and socio-environmental problems of the Argentine rural area, she analyses the production of scientific knowledge oriented to agriculture and its political, social and environmental implications.

Cecilia Gárgano focuses on the history of science, social and environmental policy, and agrarian extractivism. During her fellowship, Dr. Gárgano investigates the social, economic, and environmental impacts of state knowledge production focused on rural extractivism in Argentina. She enriches the collaborative research project’s perspective on the social model of extractivism, focusing on technical-scientific discourses and agrarian extractivism.
