biography

Juan Pablo Jiménez is a lecturer of Public Finance at the
Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO) from the University of Buenos
Aires. He is also a researcher at the Center for Economic Research
(CINVE) in Uruguay and the Vice President of the Ibero-American Association for
Local Financing (AIFIL). Dr. Jiménez was the office director of the Economic
Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Uruguay and the
coordinator of the Fiscal Area of the Economic Development Division of ECLAC in
Santiago, Chile.  In addition, he was a visiting lecturer at the School
of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) from Columbia University, New York.
Moreover, he worked in the Argentinean Ministry of Economy, the Argentinean
National Congress and the Department of Fiscal Affairs of the International
Monetary Fund (IMF). Finally, he has been a consultant to numerous
organizations, including the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the World
Bank, UNICEF, and the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT). He
holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Buenos Aires, a
Master’s Degree in Public Policy from Columbia University and another Master’s
Degree in Economics from the Di Tella Institute in Buenos Aires. He is the
author of numerous books, articles and publications on economic development,
public economics, taxation, fiscal policy, natural resources, climate change,
social policies, inequality and fiscal federalism.

CONTRIBUTION TO THE PROJECT

Juan Pablo Jiménez is an economist with experience in the field of economic development, inequality, and fiscal policies. Both as an academic and also as a member of staff of international organizations such as ECLAC, he links economic development with a detailed analysis of drivers of inequality in Latin America. During his fellowships, he focuses on the state of wealth and its high levels of concentration in Latin America and analyzes tax regimes and natural resources in the region.
