Guillermo Guzmán Prudencio has a PhD in Applied Economics and a Master’s in Economic Analysis of Law and Public Policies from the University of Salamanca, Spain. Moreover, he graduated in Economics from the Bolivian Catholic University. He has published several articles on institutional economics and development, social class, ethnic voting, and development and mining. Today, he is a lecturer at the Postgraduate Centre in Development Sciences of the University Mayor de San Andrés (CIDES-UMSA) and a Post-Doc Researcher at the Universidad Privada Boliviana (UPB). Finally, he participates in various international research projects such as INEQUALITREES (A Novel Look at Socio-Economic Inequalities using Machine Learning Techniques and Integrated Data Sources) and ELLAS (Latin American Open Data for gender equality policies focusing on Leadership in STEM).

CONTRIBUTION TO THE PROJECT

Guillermo Guzmán Prudencio examines the interaction between statehood and extractivism in Bolivia from a historical perspective. He is mainly concerned with the reconfiguration of political coalitions, the transformation of governing elites, and the change of political institutions. With this approach, he explores the question of the historical persistence of extractivism in Bolivia.
