The collaborative research project Extractivism.de organized on 7 October 2022 an internal workshop with the first round of fellow researchers being received by both project universities, Kassel Universität and Philipps University of Marburg. The meeting focused on the ways we can conceptualize the extractivism development model and in which ways our visiting researchers plan to contribute to the project’s core ideas.
The first cohort of fellows brings together scholars from both Latin America and the Maghreb. It aims at enriching the collective project by including their different expertises and theoretical and methodological approaches. The workshop was, then, a first step in bringing together perspectives from different regional contexts and distinct disciplines, laying the foundation for a fruitful discussion on how the development model can be explored theoretically and methodologically and to what extent regional particularities and commonalities can be identified. The collective project’s staff was present at the meeting and our coordinator, Dr. Hannes Warnecke-Berger, presented the fellowship program’s core objective. Already in this first round of discussions, it became clear that there are many research overlaps among the fellow’s and the team’s interests. Apart from the plenary discussion, there was the opportunity to deepen the conversation in smaller groups during a lunch meeting, enabling the foundation for future cooperation.
