From June 30 to July 2, 2025, all current fellows of the Extractivism.de program, based at the University of Kassel and the Philipps University of Marburg, came together at Gut Junkernhof for a closed workshop dedicated to the theme Extractivism and Geopolitics. The event also welcomed external research guests whose expertise enriched the vibrant exchange.
Over three days, participants explored the political economy of extractivism, the dynamics of green transitions, and the strategic reconfiguration of global commodity chains. Through critical regional perspectives, especially from Latin America and North Africa, the workshop highlighted the evolving intersections of resource politics, development strategies, and shifting geopolitical landscapes.
The event marked an important step in shaping future publication initiatives within the Extractivism.de fellowship and reinforced collaborative ties among the 2025 cohort.
