Participation in 9th European Workshops in International Studies

The Extractivism team was present at the 9th European Workshops in International Studies (EWIS) organized by the European International Studies Association (EISA) at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, Greece. The workshop happened from the 6th to the 9th of July, 2022.

This year’s theme was “The Interconnected Worlds of the Past and the Present: co-constituting the International,” and gathered scholars from many parts of the world with different backgrounds, research interests and academic levels. Extractivism.de’s project coordinator, Dr. Hannes Warnecke-Berger, and Luíza Cerioli, the post-doc researcher at Kassel University, organized an interdisciplinary workshop entitled: “The Dark Sides of Sustainability and Global Development: interlinking IR, Area Studies, and Development Research.” You can read more about the workshop here. The workshop resulted in two days of intense discussion on extractivism, uneven development and growth, green resources, and the differences between discourses concerning environment protection and development from/in/by the Global North and the Global South.
