From June 13 to 15, the Extractivism Tem was present at the 10th International Conference of the European Council for Social Research on Latin America (CEISAL) in Helsinki, Finland. CEISAL 2022 was also, exceptionally this year, the Nordic Latin American Research Network (NOLAN) 11th Conference. The conference’s theme this year was “Uncertain Trajectories: Latin America after Globalization” and received more than 500 participants presenting on panels, keynotes, and symposia.
Luíza Cerioli, our postdoc Researcher at Kassel University, presented a paper entitled “Exploring the link between international system, preferences, and development projects in extractivist countries” at the panel “CALAS Perspectives on Extractivism – Part II: (Trans)National Elites, Patronage Politics and State Permeated Development in Latin America.” This panel was organized and chaired by Extractivism Project’s coordinator, Dr. Hannes Warnecke-Berger. In addition, our partner CALAS (Maria Sibylla Merian Center for Advanced Latin American Studies) organized two other panels throughout the conference under the title “CALAS Perspectives on Extractivism – The Myth of Development: Natural Resources and Glorified Futures in Latin America”.
