Dr. Bertram Lang is a postdoctoral researcher at the Philipps-University of Marburg. His research relies on mixed method approaches to study the transnational politics of Global China, in fields including the non-profit sector, (anti-)corruption and governance, and development policy. In the Extractivism project, he explores the geopolitical dimensions of extractivism as well as the China factor in natural resource governance.
After obtaining his PhD in Political Science from Goethe University Frankfurt with a thesis on non-profit actors in Chinese foreign and development policy, Bertram served as Visiting Professor for the Economy and Society of China at the Georg-August-University of Göttingen from 2023 to 2024. He holds M.A. (hons) degrees in EU International Relations from the College of Europe (Bruges) and in Political Science from the University of Freiburg and Sciences Po Aix-en-Provence. Bertram has field research experience in mainland China, Hong Kong and Portugal and previously worked for the Mercator Institute for China Studies in Berlin.
