BIOGRAPHY

Alexander Lohse is a research associate in the project extractivism.de at the Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies at Philipps University of Marburg. He studied Islamic Studies, Arabic, and Economics at the University of Hamburg and Ain-Shams University in Cairo, as well as Politics and Economics of the Near and Middle East at Philipps University of Marburg. Currently, he is working on a doctoral project in Political Science titled “Status-seeking strategies of a rising regional power: the foreign policy of the United Arab Emirates since 2011”. His current research interests include the role of international norms in the areas of climate change/sustainability and gender equality in the foreign policy of Arab states, as well as the relationship of the Arab Gulf states with the Global South.
